Federal Reserve Board Gov. Ben Bernanke speaks on "The Great Moderation: The Decline in Output and Inflation Volatility Since the 1970s" before an Eastern Economic Association luncheon, Washington, D.C., 12:45 p.m. (1745 GMT.)

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan speaks on "Education's Critical Role in the Nation's Economy" before a Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce annual meeting, Omaha, Neb., 1:45 p.m., 12:45 p.m. local time (1845 GMT.)

Federal Reserve releases weekly assets and liabilities of commercial banks, 4:15 p.m. (2115 GMT.)

ECONOMIC INDICATORS:

Labor Department releases the January Consumer Price Index (CPI), 8:30 a.m. (1330 GMT). Economists in a Reuters survey expect a median 0.3 percent rise compared with a 0.2 percent rise in January. Excluding volatile food and energy items, CPI is seen up 0.1 percent compared to a 0.1 percent rise the prior month.

Labor Department issues Real Earnings for January, 8:30 a.m. (1330 GMT). In December real earnings fell 0.6 percent.

Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI) releases its weekly index of economic activity for Feb. 13 week, 10:30 a.m. (1530 GMT). In the prior week the index read 131.7.

Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland releases its median Consumer Price Index for January, no set time. The index rose 0.1 percent in December.
