TREASURY DEPARTMENT:

Treasury Department announces bill sale for the following week, 11 a.m. (1600 GMT).

Treasury Department sells 10-year notes, about 1 p.m. (1800 GMT).

U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow testifies on the president's fiscal 2005 budget proposal before the Senate Finance Committee, Washington, D.C., 2 p.m. (1900 GMT).

FEDERAL RESERVE:

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan testifies on the central bank's semiannual report on monetary policy before the Senate Banking Committee, Washington, D.C., 10 a.m. (1500 GMT).

Fed releases weekly money stock, liquid assets and debt measures and the weekly report on factors affecting reserves of depository institutions and the condition statement of the Federal Reserve banks, 4:30 p.m. (2130 GMT).

ECONOMIC INDICATORS:

Commerce Department releases January retail sales, 8:30 a.m. (1330 GMT). Economists in a Reuters survey expect a median unchanged reading compared with a 0.5 percent rise in December. Excluding automobiles, sales are seen up 0.5 percent compared to a 0.1 percent rise in the prior month.

Labor Department releases first-time claims for jobless benefits for the week ended Feb. 7, 8:30 a.m. (1330 GMT). Economists in a Reuters survey forecast a median total of 345,000 new filings compared with 356,000 in the prior week.

U.S. Commerce Department issues Business Inventories for December, 10 A.M. (1500 GMT) Economists in a Reuters survey expect a median rise of 0.2 percent versus a rise of 0.3 percent in the prior month.

Treasury Department issues monthly budget for January 2003, 2 p.m. (1900 GMT). Economists in a Reuters survey forecast a median $0.75 billion surplus compared with a January 2002 budget surplus of $10.64 billion.
